The Tim Horton’s Novice Rep Pelham Panthers travelled to Smithville on Friday night to take on the West Lincoln Wrath. Pelham opened the scoring with a goal from Luke Breadner, assisted by Christian Doherty and Cassidy Blanchard. The Wrath tied it up but Pelham was quick to answer with another goal from Luke Breadner, assisted by Maxx Veld, in the dying seconds of the first period. Breadner opened the scoring in the second with another assist from Veld. The Wrath came back with another goal, which would prove to be their last due to the strong defensive play of Braeden Miltenburg, Ian McQueen, Marshall Frederick, and Gage Philbrick. The Panthers went on to score six more goals, with 3 more from Breadner and lone efforts from Austin Wilson (assisted by Merek Triano), Justin Narvaez, and Christian Doherty. Pelham wins 9-2.
The Panthers had a busy weekend, playing host to the St. Catharines Warriors the next day. The first period saw no scoring from either team, with Panthers defensemen Brody Miltenburg, Aaron Lee and Caleb Walton playing strong on the puck. Pelham opened the scoring in the second with an unassisted goal from Cassidy Blanchard who shot it in off her own rebound. The Warriors came back to tie it up and moved ahead with a second goal with only seconds left in the period. Pelham ties it up in the third with a goal from Luke Breadner. The Warriors battled back with 2 quick goals to put them ahead. The Panthers claw their way back in the game with 2 more goals from Breadner. Despite pulling goalie Ryan Leduc in the last minute after a strong effort, Pelham ultimately comes up short, losing 5-4.
Following their busy weekend, the Panthers took a field trip of sorts to watch the Canadian World Juniors practice in St. Catharines at the new Meridian Centre. The team enjoyed watching an elite group of athletes practice at such a high level. Pelham plays host to Thorold this weekend at the Pelham arena.
