Boys high school all-star game showcases skills

By Corey LeBlanc, Special to Postmedia Network

You didn’t have to look up to see the stars shine on Wednesday night.

Instead of the skies, they were on the basketball court at St. Catharines Collegiate, where 40 of the best boys high school players in Niagara showcased their skills in a top 10, top 20 doubleheader.

Proceeds from the first charity game to feature all-stars from north Niagara, Zone 4, and south Niagara, Zone 3, benefitted Big Brothers and Big Sisters organizations from the region.

Action tipped off with Zone 4 netting an 83-34 victory in the top 20 game. Sir Winston Churchill’s Asim Serry, the north’s player of the game, scored 10 points, while Saint Michael’s Dusan Krkljus led the south with a game-high 12 points, all on three-pointers.

In comparison, there was no drama in the marquee matchup with pitting the top 10 players from each zone against each other.

Churchill’s Harrison Enns scored a team-high nine points and was named the north’s most valuable player in a 59-54 victory that completed a sweep for

Zone 4.

A.N. Myer’s Stephan Milijenovic led all scorers with 14 points and was honoured as player of the game for south Niagara.

About $450 was raised for Big Brothers and Big Sisters.
